In order to facilitate evidence-based advocacy backed by empirical findings, IYWD partnered with the Research Advocacy Unit (RAU) to commission a desk and field research in the form of a national survey titled, “Survey on Young Women’s Political Participation: Her Right of Way, Give Way”. The research established the level of participation, particularly representation of young women in the county’s elective politics at Local Government and Parliamentary levels. The survey will cover all the country’s 10 provinces.

Specific Objectives of the survey were as follows:

• To establish the current level of representation of young women (18-35) in elective political positions at the local authorities and Parliamentary level. This involved compiling and analysing statistics disaggregated by gender, disability/different abilities, age and geographical areas.
• To assess the socio-cultural and economic factors which encourage and/or discourage young women’s participation in electoral processes.
• To recommend policy, political and administrative strategies necessary to strengthen the participation of young women in political processes, including elective politics
